Eliminate Procrastination
Having an idea is often the easy part, translating that idea into action is the major obstacle. How many great ideas are never realised because people are not inclined to take action? Of course this is just one aspect of procrasination, its a lot easier to just sit back and do nothing and this is a major reason for underachievement and not realising ones potential and since time is money it can represent a major financial loss as well. This article presents some tips on how to avoid procratination.
Sometimes we may be overcome by the enormity of a task and therefore delay starting it. In this case its important to realise that everything can't be done at once and that if you chip away at things the task it will get easier. Goal setting is very important, set yourself a minimum target for each day and ensure this is met. Be realistic and specific when you set goals, for example "I will write 1 article every day".
Step 1: Accept that you are a procrastinator and also that you have a sincere desire to change. Tell yourself that if you fail to achieve a particular goal then its because you procrastinated. Take ownership of your actions but don't wallow in unjustified self-blame.
Step 2: Write down a list of examples of your procrastination. There may be many such as not paying a bill, not visiting a sick relative in hospital, not having a car fault checked etc.
Step 3: Now list all of the desirable goals you have failed to achieve because of procrastination. When you measure the consequence of a missed opportunity because you procratinated ask if the consequence was worth the delay. Assess the dollar value of the missed opportunity.
Step 4: Become more organised. Procrastination about organising all your information can result in a lot of confusion and wasted time when you try to do other tasks later. If you have a lot of information on computer how much time do you repeatedly spend looking for something? Organise your information so that its readily available, make sure you are not having to dig for important files.
Step 5: Prioritise your tasks. Once you are organised sort out your tasks in order of urgency and ensure that the most pressing ones are done first.
